Amplifying Your Voice is The Smartest Thing You’ll Ever Do

Jul 30, 2025

Your limits for what you can do in this world (for what is humanly possible) is determined by only one thing: The story you’re telling about your life and who you are, and that comes down to core beliefs you let "win" your timeline.

For example, last year I did what many would call "social suicide". I started a GoFundMe to set the balances straight in my life, telling the whole world about my traumatic background starting as young as 9. In my early 20's I knew something was wrong, but couldn't pinpoint what it was because I had a 15-year old suppressed memory. But I told myself the story, "I will figure out what happened, I will overcome whatever it is that is keeping me trapped in a life of chaotic reactivity. I will keep showing up."

And because I did, amplifying my voice, I was not only able to uncover the suppressed memory keeping me stuck, but I was also able to reconnect with so many things I loved in my life that were flat-out hidden in my psyche. And now, I have opportunities coming my way that I used to think could only ever be a dream...My voice has been the activator and navigator; the entire way.

So — what is your life? And, who are you? I think you know yourself more than you realize, but like any of us, we can get caught in cycles of self-betrayal.

Your life though  do external circumstances define what you will do with your life, where you will live, who you will marry? Or do you have an intrinsic motor propelling you, telling the story of how you will overcome every adversity or challenge to attain your desires?

If you’re uncertain, or insecure about it, all you have to do is talk about it. Literally. Seems too good to be true, but this comes down to the design of the human voice. The human voice is made for these things: to regulate, communicate, and activate (navigate) in life. Its design is to spur thought into action. Thoughts and ideas become planned out and designed creations. Those creations, if good and life-giving to you and this world, create more life. These creations of course can include music and singing. But It starts with the words you say, the story you tell, and what you choose to live into

So let's think about what a good life really looks like:

1. You’re not pigeonholed by constraint or force

2. You have variety  this is what brings a spice and zest to life.

3. There is a healthy stress: building, problem-solving, negotiating/collaborating, etc.

Problem is, traumatic experience knocks these states of mind and ways of being out of your registry of possibility, because it damages your human drives. Traumatic experience causes you to think in black or white -- and not in a healthy way like looking out at a sea of people, or penguins or cows. It is an inadvertent response to limit your thought-processes and speech, and the irony with this post-traumatic response, is that most survivors end up in a place of neutrality. In other words, the mindset of extremes overwhelms you so much, you default to middle ground so that you don't have to disappoint others or find yourself in a place of risk of relived trauma again. But neutral was never created for driving a vehicle long distances. Likewise, you probably don't want to operate from neutral in life either (take my word on that one, I learned the hard way.)

So tough love from your goat coach here (learn about Scapegoats United here), knock it off. You do care. You do have feelings about what happened to you. You do want to see a certain result. You do. Stop acting like you don't and that you can just make everyone happy and deny your own needs and wants. That's neutral. And it's dangerous. Dangerous, because you're dancing not the cusp of saying, "my existence doesn't really matter." You're flirting with passivity in your work and relationships. You're overlooking the impact of your trauma and the parts of yourself that are crying out to be heard, held, validated and nurtured. So get to know yourself. Amplify Your Voice.

If you're wondering what I mean when I say "amplify," I mean authenticity. You can read my latest blog post, "Authenticity is Your Greatest Virtue" here. But in getting to the point of this blog post -- just why is it the smartest? To amplify your voice? Because when you don't use your voice, you don't move energy through the body. When you don't use your voice, you don't show up and connect with others. When you don't use your voice, it's easy to get pigeonholed, lose variety in life and harbor unhealthy stress. When you don't use your voice, you miss out on opportunities that have been waiting for you to speak up and make yourself known. But most importantly, when you do use your voice, you find the right mirrors that will amplify your message. In other words, amplifying your voice brings you the most clarity in life. And with clarity, you find what's meant for you, what you were made for, and unlock all of your life's blessings.

And that's just the thing isn't it? We're all stuck here comparing ways how to attain that. But there is no one right way, other than what's right for you. (It's not neutral though!) But truly, we all have a story to tell. We have stories within our story to tell. And what can we do with other people’s stories? With our own?

Learn from them. Grow.

Especially the stories of trauma you may have. The reality is, in order to get where we are going, we have to give ourselves — our true authentic selves — the attention it deserves, needs, and longs for.

We have to find the right mirrors to stand in front of with our truth. And if you're like me with traumatic experience, trauma is truth.

Now then, what is your truth and how are you growing from it? What is the story you're going to tell?
