Understand Your Assignment
Jan 21, 2026
The biggest reason people end up unhappy in life, isn’t because they went through a negative experience. It’s not because they went through a betrayal or major life loss — those things are bound to happen because we can’t control people or outcomes. People end up unhappy in life when they are off-track and out of alignment with their assignment/s. You might get a few over the course of your lifetime or you may have one single one that emulates through various mediums of display, communication and connection. What do I mean by “assignment” and how does your voice factor in here? Read on to find out.
Your assignment is a soul-level calling, a command from God, a task that’s unique to you and your life story. Your assignment is where you take what you’ve experienced and learned and apply it into service, help, and connection with others. It’s when you step fully into who you are, and share your gifts, talents, and skills. It’s actually the most natural state of being for you, when you step into flow with your assignment, the thing is — many of us struggle to get there. Not because we’re ignoring it, but because of what’s required to step into access of it with our full being.
If you’ve had a life similar to mine, the story that gets interwoven into your system and psyche from a young age either sets you up for struggle or ease. If your development and safety as a child was threatened and harmed, you automatically get set up for struggle. Only because that’s the nature of development — we generate what we’re taught, and we only know what we know. If a toxic hook gets in your system and isn’t taken care of right away, it develops too. Being shown and taught that you have to be a sacrifice…your mind will keep looking for ways to meet that egregious expectation. So the challenge first, isn’t just understanding your assignment, it’s unlearning everything that has cluttered the way to accessing it in the first place.
Your next and probably toughest challenge then? Is abandoning what threatened your trajectory — forget what you know. That’s the bottomline of change and transformation: you must release what no longer serves you, to receive what is for you. The more you wrestle with it, the more complicated you make your life. If you know what’s been calling you to go all-in, that’s your priority, that’s your assignment. Failing to go all-in is what keeps you dissatisfied. While some things in life do just come to you, these are just the invitations for you to step into your assignment. When there is a calling to go all-in, the work doesn’t get done by just looking at it, by doing everything to set it up. It gets done when you meet it, when you engage with it.
If you want this year and your life to feel good , but right now you feel like you’ve been toiling? You must honor your struggle and embrace the call. It’s not one or the other, it’s both. To honor where you’ve been, the pain or loss you’ve gone through, you have to keep showing up. You have to keep saying, “I’m here” — where it matters most: your assignment.
